What is this we are hearing? Finally, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) acted like a true regulator. We just heard from good sources that early this afternoon, the ERC reduced the ancillary rate agreed to by Therma Marine and NGCP. If true, this will at the very least ease the burdens of increased power bills. We, Mindanao consumers, can also expect refunds for what we have paid during the hot summer months when electricity bills skyrocketed to the high heavens. At least, the ERC has come to its senses. Though belatedly, it has realized that the provisional authority it has previously granted to the ancillary rate application of the afore-said heavyweights in the energy sector is a bit off.
But it is too early to be celebratory. Let us wait and look through the decision of the ERC. Let us wait and see!
